AFC Wimbledon made it a club double last night, when the first team added the Surrey Women’s Cup to the Greater London Division One title won last month by their development side.

After years of domination of the competition by the likes of Chelsea and Crystal Palace, some new names are being inscribed on the county cup – and after Carshalton Athletic won it last year, it was their turn to watch the victors lift the trophy this time around, following a 3-1 extra-time win for the Dons. Bexhill United moved a step closer to a league-and-cup double after beating Meridian 1-0.

The East Sussex side, who play in the League Cup final later this month, clinched a vital three points, courtesy of a goal from Chantelle Barkworth, to stay in control of their destiny in the South East Counties League Premier Division.

It leaves them three points behind leaders Parkwood Rangers, who won their final fixture of the season, 3-0 at Haywards Heath. But they still have three games to play. Continue reading
