Chichester took out weeks of frustrating inaction on their unfortunate opponents as they swept into the third round of the FA Cup for the first time at the expense of Enfield Town.

The South West Combination title contenders finally played their second-round tie, initially scheduled for Oaklands Park, at the fourth attempt, in north London.

And they proved far too sharp for their hosts, whom they used to play in the South East Combination before their switch this season, triumphing 6-0.

Kally Ambler and Lauren Cheshire put Chichester 2-0 up by half-time, and second-half goals from Ambler again, Abbey Shrubb and Hollie Wride (2) sealed a convincing victory – and secured a daunting trip into the unknown next Sunday, at Super League newcomers Durham.

And it could have been more if it had not been for an outstanding performance in the Enfield goal by Kelly Cooper, who pulled off a series of fine saves to keep the score down.

Brighton will travel to Plymouth Argyle for their third-round contest after the Devon side beat neighbours Exeter City 6-1.

And Charlton Athletic will play Sheffield, who beat Liverpool Feds 10-0 in their rearranged second-round match.

Portsmouth, who have a home FA Cup tie against Lewes next Sunday, progressed to the semi-finals of the Hampshire County Cup in style as they romped to a 17-0 victory over Aldershot Town.

The two clubs met in last year’s final, when Pompey won 13-0, but in today’s quarter-final, they surpassed even that, with Gemma Hillier scoring four, Charley Wilson and Lucy Quinn also scoring hat-tricks, Sarah Kempson two, and Tiffany Taylor, Gemma Simmons, Nadine Bazan, Naomi Greene and Ellie Bloomfield one apiece.

Aldershot are currently second in the Southern Region WFL Premier Division.

Lewes bowed out of the FAW Premier League Cup, going down 1-0 to in-form Cardiff City in their quarter-final.

In the South West Combination, bottom-placed University of Portsmouth continued their resurgent recent form, winning 2-1 against Newquay for their second win of 2014. Amber Clarke scored both Portsmouth goals.

Adur Athletic Reserves went top of the Sussex County Women & Girls’ League with a 6-2 win over Worthing Town Reserves at Shoreham.

Ella Turvill and Zoe Rendell each scored twice for Adur. Abbie Follows and Hannah Lane got the others.

Amy Priest, with a penalty, and Sharon Dixon replied for Worthing.

My thanks to Girls on the Ball and Hayley Newman for their help in compiling today’s round-up.
